    The First and the Fiftieth

    Germany, 1975 and 2026

    On 28 December 1975, seventy people met in the in Hamburg for the first Jalsa Salana in Germany, and Maulana Fazal Ilahi Anweri, then and in Germany, chaired the opening and closing sessions. This weekend the fiftieth is being held at Mendig with about forty-eight thousand.

    He wrote down what those years were like

    The writing survives. These passages in his memoirs describe the years between his return to Germany in 1972 and the first Jalsa:

    What was happening· September 1974

    Pakistan’s constitution was amended to declare Ahmadis non-Muslim. This was the event behind the arrivals he describes and behind the asylum work.
