- Ahmadiyya Muslim Community
A movement founded in 1889 at Qadian in British India by Mirza Ghulam Ahmad. Its members are called Ahmadis, and it has been led from London since 1984.

The Urdu daily newspaper of the Community, founded in 1913. His verse and his prose appeared in it from the 1950s onwards.

- Baitul Futuh
The Community’s mosque at Morden in south London, opened in 2003. His funeral prayer in absentia was led there on 17 March 2017.

- Bhera
A town in the district of Sargodha in the Punjab, where he was born on 16 April 1927.

- Darweshan of Qadian
The men who remained at Qadian in 1947 to keep the Community’s centre there when most members left for the new state of Pakistan. Darwesh is the singular, Darweshan the plural.

- Darweshan-e-Ahmadiyyat
The title of his eight-volume series, which gathers the dreams, visions and signs granted to devoted members of the Community around the world. The title does not refer to the Darweshan of Qadian, the men who stayed there in 1947.

- Fazl-e-Omar Mosque
The Community’s mosque in Hamburg, opened in 1957. The first Jalsa Salana in Germany was held there on 28 December 1975.

- Friday Sermon
The address given before the congregational prayer on a Friday. The one delivered by the Khalifatul Masih is broadcast each week.

A funeral prayer said for someone who died elsewhere and whose body is not present. It may be led long after the burial and in another country.

- Hadiqatul Mubashireen
An institution at Rabwah concerned with the further training and the affairs of missionaries. He was its secretary from 1979.

- Huzoor
A term of respect for the head of the Community, close to "His Holiness". In these manuscripts it always means whichever head was living at the time being described.

- Ijtema
A gathering of one of the auxiliary organisations, usually held once a year and smaller than the Jalsa Salana.

A magazine for women published within the Community. The sources on this site name it without describing it further.

A modest word for oneself, meaning roughly "this humble one". He used it throughout his manuscripts in place of "I", so a sentence about Khaksar is a sentence about himself.

The elected head of the worldwide Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, who holds the office for life. Each is counted in turn, so Khalifatul Masih IV (rh) means the fourth of them.

- Markaz
The centre, meaning the headquarters of the Community. It stood at Qadian in India and later at Rabwah in Pakistan.

- Missionary In-charge
The senior missionary of a country, responsible for its missionaries and for its preaching work. The office is often held by the same person as that of Amir.

- Musleh Maud
The title by which the Community refers to Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmud Ahmad, who lived from 1889 to 1965 and was the second Khalifatul Masih (ra).

- Noon ghunna
A letter of the Urdu alphabet, written like the letter noon but without its dot, marking a nasal vowel. It is easily lost when text passes between systems.

- Nur Mosque
Masjid Nur, a principal mosque at Rabwah, used for large congregational gatherings.

- Promised Messiah
The title by which the Community refers to its founder, Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, who lived from 1835 to 1908.

A town in the Indian Punjab, the birthplace of Mirza Ghulam Ahmad and the first centre of the Community.

- Rabwah
A town in the Punjab in Pakistan, founded in 1948 as the centre of the Community after the partition of India, and its headquarters until 1984.

- Sadr
The president of a body or of a local branch, for example the president of a national auxiliary organisation.

- Silsila
Literally a chain or an order. He used it for the Community itself, where an English writer would simply write "the Community".

Conveying the message of Islam to others, by speaking, writing and answering questions. He called his years of service abroad a period of tabligh.

In September 1974 the National Assembly of Pakistan amended the Constitution to declare Ahmadis non-Muslim for the purposes of the law and the Constitution.
